Earth to earth...- paradigm of the eternal return, because we are born from the earth and return to it... The same happens with the slate, which was born from the primordial seas more than 300M years ago, emerged to be extracted and used for the most diverse purposes, making our lives easier and continuing as a testimony of memory during our drifting journey, until it fragments and fades away. Slate was declared "very suitable for monuments to death" in an article published in the 19th century, as its dark colour and soft grain made it perfect for symbolising the grief caused by loss, but at the same time allowing for works of art that perpetuate the memory of loved ones, in an attempt to soften longing... in a romantic ideal that still endures today.
