Muratpa?a Municipality in Antalya started sesame cultivation after corn, wheat and ginger. For this, approximately 5 acres of land in Güzeloba Neighborhood was cleared, the soil was plowed with a tractor and sesame seeds were sprinkled on the ground.
Agricultural production works in Muratpa?a, which is the center of city life with Antalya's population approaching 515,000, hospitals, business and shopping centers, and historical and touristic points such as Kaleiçi, started in April last year with the initiatives of Mayor Ümit Uysal. In order to draw attention to the food shortage caused by the Covid-19 epidemic and to emphasize the importance of ensuring continuity in agricultural production, corn was planted first.
This time, sesame, a summer plant, took the lead in the continuous production works of Muratpa?a Municipality. The Directorate of Parks and Gardens made all the necessary preparations for sesame cultivation in an area of approximately 5 decares in Güzeloba Neighborhood. As the area became suitable for cultivation, sesame seeds were sprinkled on the soil.
