Muratpa?a Municipality took part in the Agriculture Summit held in Istanbul with nearly 20 citrus products, from sour to sweet, from soap to cologne, with balcony farming practices and with what they cultivated from corn to wheat during the pandemic. Muratpa?a Mayor Ümit Uysal, who took part in the summit held between September 30 and October 2, talked about his work in the field of agricultural production and shared his experience with the municipalities. Mayor Uysal emphasized that it is important that such a summit is taking place during the pandemic period, when the necessity of being a self-sufficient country in food is understood once again. Stating that they started the production movement in April last year in order to raise awareness about agricultural production, Mayor Uysal said, “We have processed the municipal lands in our Muratpa?a, which has completed its urbanization to a large extent, and made it suitable for cultivation. Our work, which started with corn, continued with wheat.” Mayor Uysal stated that as a result of these high-yield studies, they turned corn into flour and wheat and shared them with Muratpa?a residents free of charge, adding that they also cultivated ginger and sesame. Ümit Uysal also stated that they started balcony farming practices so that the residents of the municipality could participate in the production works of the municipality, and said, “Within the scope of the project, we distributed pots planted with lettuce, parsley, basil, sage, thyme and garlic to 5 thousand houses.”
