Realizing the danger posed by climate change, the executive director of the public organization «PLATO» - Mykola Ryabyka submitted an electronic petition «Lviv needs an action plan to combat the weather». He called on the Lviv City Council to develop and implement concrete steps that will create a comfortable and safe environment for the Lviv community.
Among the main measures were: to conduct a study of the vulnerability of Lviv MTG to the effects of climate change, which will provide an understanding of the greatest risks; develop and approve an Adaptation Plan to the effects of climate change with the establishment of specific adaptation goals; to create an institution responsible for climate policy — the Climate Office, which will collect data, create recommendations for improving the activities of city structures, carry out informational and educational activities and monitor compliance with the implementation of the Adaptation Plan.
The petition promptly collected the required 500 electronic signatures. This underlined the urgency of this issue for the people of Lviv.
After that, the deputies of the Lviv City Council considered the plenary session and supported the petition, «Lviv needs an action plan to counter the weather».
