Public budget of Lviv

One of the most effective tools of public participation in the city of Lviv is the Public Budget. The public budget of Lviv allowed to involve the city's residents in the distribution of budget funds by selecting the best public projects. This year we also used the Public Budget to promote green initiatives. In 2021 Lviv has a new record in attracting residents to vote — about 150 thousand voted for public budget projects. The dynamics of the winners' projects is interesting: out of 101 projects, about 20 is on environmental issues. This was achieved as a result of the promotional campaign. A series of videos was created and distributed, and an information campaign was conducted on social networks. We actively acquainted Lviv residents with the implemented projects, especially those related to environmental issues or implementing «green solutions». Among the projects were: house for insects, improvement of lakes, bird feeders in city parks, trees, rain gardens, hedges, eco-parks, composters, public garden in Zalizna Voda Park, permeable surfaces in Lviv parks, weeds in the park. Thus, we built faith in the effectiveness of this tool of public participation and encouraged the authors to create environmental projects based on «green solutions».
